In our Grant Makers Survey this year, we invited respondents to nominate individuals who go above and beyond in supporting grantees. Our AI Survey Bunny who did the number crunching said "Love this – the Hall of Fame is one of the nicest bits of the survey 💛" So, we've included all the nominees below.
We have 30 fantastic people from 20 grant makers. Thank you to all of you for all you do to help all of us.
Team at Lloyds Bank Foundation. they really understand the challenges, (ever changing & increasing) and pressures that CEO's in particular are under. The Charity sector is carrying too much serving the too many vulnerable/in need/in poverty/mental health and homeless/vulnerably housed. The sector is not valued sufficiently by Local and Central Government and their approach is becoming more 'dictate' than partnership. It is disturbing!”
Rachel Marshall – Lloyds Bank Foundation (2 nominations). Supporting us to strengthen our organisation by providing additional support from their pool of consultants. Informing us of grant funds that are available. Allowing us to use her as a referee for other grant applications. Always emphatic, sympathetic and supportive to our needs as an organisation” “Rachel Marshall, Lloyds Bank Foundation Rachel guided us through the whole process from beginning to end always talking at our level. No question felt too stupid to ask.”
Edie – Lloyds Bank Foundation. “Edie from Lloyds Bank Foundation has been very supportive and the charity has open and honest dialogue with her.”
Ella Sips – Lloyds Bank Foundation. Ella is fabulous. She goes above and beyond; she is and has been, a champion for our Local Collaborations Programme project from meeting us in the drafting phase; supporting our programme in board decision meetings, and working with staff to link into the wider programme support. She is a font of knowledge; facilitating and sharing a range of sector information, including strategic support to better map sector changes and impacts, funding, training and development opportunities all with a non-intrusive approach to sharing and empowering community organisations.”
Marie Hale – Lloyds Bank Foundation. So supportive – always open to discuss, offer support, make connections. She is brilliant.” “Marie is brilliant because of her skills and knowledge about the charity sector, governance and in particular things that small charities need to know or deal with on a day to day basis as well as when building strategy and developing. Her personable approach and her support goes consistently above and beyond.”
Sarah Kent – National Lottery Reaching Communities. she is always super helpful – she genuinely cares about her role and the organisations TNL support.”
Sarah Bowman – National Lottery (Regional Grant Officer NE & Cumbria). she's gone over and above to help us through the process. We submitted a Reaching Communities EOI in December for their January panel meeting and she decided to hold it back because the success rate for that round was so low. She likes our project so is backing it all the way and looking out for our best chances. Way to go, Sarah!”
Barry McCormack – The National Lottery Community Fund. Exceptional support and guidance, knows so much about our charity and which funds to apply for that closely meet our needs and are more likely to be successful.”
Emma Taylor – The National Lottery Community Fund (Lincolnshire). Emma understands the specialisms of different charities and listens (a rare trait nowadays), and always looks at the potential for a project to succeed. As a specialist Domestic Abuse charity working in a very rural area, we have found that Emma's advice, information – and patience! – makes us comfortable when applying for multi-year funding.”
Nicholas Timms – The National Lottery (grant manager). I love our grant manager Nicholas Timms from the National Lottery. He's such a joy to work with, always so positive and full of enthusiasm for what we are doing. Thank you Nicholas!”
James Newall – GSR Foundation. for his genuine commitment and innovative thinking about how best to deliver impact.”
James – City Bridge Trust / City Bridge Foundation. “James has been excellent.”
Marek Habrda – City Bridge Foundation. and the CBF in general have been great to deal with. They are proactive in helping us with their programmes, including making a new commercialisation programme to help us self-fund.”
Bikal – Reading Borough Council. He has done a phenomenal job in promoting the Council's fundraising platform, encouraging community voluntary organisations to register to use it. This has increased access for many small community groups in Reading to get regular fundraising information about a wide range of funding sources.”
Sue Anderson – Edward and Dorothy Cadbury Trust. “They are amazing, they are so personal and always seem to be there when you need them. They truly understand and find the time to listen and guide you. They truly believe in creating long lasting relationships, which can sadly be missing today. I would like to give a special mention to Sue Anderson, who is such a great help.”
Claire – Historic Houses Foundation. “Claire was wonderful, couldn't have been more helpful as a funder, took time to return my call, answer all my questions and talk through potential options.”
James Middleton – Bromley Trust. He is just so great to work with, responsive, helpful and gets the challenges of the sector.”
Team at Postcode Neighbourhood Trust. We got turned down the first time we applied and when we asked them before reapplying, they helped us understand the process better and advised that we used the location were we deliver our project, which was a high deprivation area, rather than the postcode of our office.”
Laura McKenzie – Northamptonshire Community Foundation. Always helpful, gave us extra time to find a new venue and change activities when a project required some major changes.”
Josephine Larcher – Community Foundation for Surrey. always goes that extra mile to support, assist and provide follow up on bids.”
Team at The James Tudor Foundation. A small team with a big heart.”
Vanessa Nakate – Partnered philanthropic climate grant maker(s). “Vanessa Nakate from Uganda she partnered with global philanthropic organization and grant makers supporting the climate change mitigation efforts.”
Martha Allfrey – Swire Charitable Trust. helpful, supportive going beyond help with application and pointing in alternative directions.”
Kay Polley – The Fore. She held our hand through the process as our Strategic Consultant. She really helped us formulate our idea and show how The Fore can help. She has been incredibly supportive since and it is like having another member of our team as she really got our work.”
Team at Carnegie Dunfermline Trust. Very friendly, good advice and very fast turn around.”
Pam Bacon – BBC Children in Need (now retired). always supportive, pragmatic and enthusiastic.”
Bruce Warnes – Shears Foundation. the Foundation is a true relationship grant maker. Excellent guidelines, total transparency, approachable, doesn't waste your time, they listen to what the need is locally and regionally and engage with their funded projects.”
Keith – CEO of Silver Lady Fund. really nice chap with lots of knowledge.”
Sandra Stocker – The Worshipful Company of Tobacco Pipe Makers & Tobacco Blenders. she contacted us with relevant training to keep our charity current.”
Stephanie Santiago – John Ellerman Foundation. Provided good guidance on our draft EOI and on our (unsuccessful) EOI submission. Obviously very rare to receive clarity and feedback from any funder!”
Team at Prosper Wakefield – amazing fund that not only provides quick support for people 'on the edge' and enables local VCSE organisations to act quickly and purchase items to meet basic needs such as white goods, food shopping, other household items. They also pay 15% management fee to administer the grant along with being absolutely fantastic to deal with and really are dedicated to changing the grant funding landscape.”
